DXA/Bone Densitometry
Imaging Associates of Canton (IAC) offers bone densitometry exams, using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. This advanced technology is more commonly referred to as a DXA scan and is a safe (low radiation), painless (non-invasive), and fast (few minutes) exam.
Bone Densitometry is a simple, proven x-ray practice that accurately and painlessly measures bone mineral density - the healthier the bone, the thicker the density. This exam helps determine whether you are at risk of fracturing a bone and can help diagnose or identify your risk for osteoporosis.
You may be at risk for osteoporosis if you have a family history of osteoporosis, a sedentary lifestyle, or chronic intestinal disorders. Other factors may also indicate a need for a DXA scan, including but not limited to, thyroid medication or steroid-based drugs for asthma, arthritis or cancer; if you are light skinned or small-framed’ if you are milk intolerant/calcium deficient, or approaching/past menopause. Speak with your physician about your potential risks and the benefits of a DXA scan.
